Make anything slap
I Heart NY recreates the classic New York Compression Trick – a mixing technique that combines aggressive parallel compression and some EQ tweaks to beef up drums, instruments and vocals.
The plugin offers a fast workflow with just two knobs and the right sound out of the box.
Turn up the spank
I Heart NY duplicates your audio and treats the parallel signal with a process labeled 'Spank': A blend of our proprietary high-ratio compression, some EQ'ing and a bit of non-linear magic.
The compression algorithm brings together inspiration from both analog and digital units and features an adaptive low-end preservation filter that ensures kick and bass tones keep their fullness.
Mix it in 'console-style'
One of I Heart NY’s quirks is that the 'Parallel Signal' slider does not behave like a regular dry/wet control like you see on other compressors.
Instead, the workflow mimics how you'd blend-in a parallel signal on an analog mixing console by offering a volume slider for the separate, compressed bus signal.
Mix-in the spanked signal below your dry sound to add weight without touching the transients and dynamics of the original track. Then use the Output knob to adjust the combined volume.
Use the 'Solo' button to playback only I Heart NY's wet signal for an ultra aggressive compression sound or monitoring purposes.

Originally launched in 2019, then retired in 2022, I Heart NY is back after an increasing volume of user requests. Here's the origin story:
Baby Audio was launched with the idea to make an aggressive one-knob compressor that would replace a beat-up 1990s hardware unit in the founder's personal home studio. He did not anticipate it to be particularly successful and the brand was called "Baby Audio" literally because it was a hobby/baby project.
As I Heart NY grew in popularity and - rather surprisingly - became adopted into the workflows of superstar mixers, we felt an obligation to expand the concept with more features, better sound, auto-gain etc. We also thought it would be nice to get rid of the silly product name(!) That work became IHNY-2, released in 2022.
However, the original I Heart NY has remained a cult favorite and some users claim it sounds better than its successor. Since we're not in a position to argue with some of the world's top engineers, we decided to just bring it back.

Why are I Heart NY and IHNY-2 both available?
I Heart NY was our first ever plugin. Its cult success set the stage for everything that was to come for Baby Audio. Even so, we still wanted to improve on what made it great, so we released a sequel in 2022. IHNY-2 offers additional flexibility and an even more user-friendly control layout, but some users still loved the original I Heart NY. After being discontinued in 2022 when the sequel was launched, the original is now back by popular demand.
So which one should I get?
Choose I Heart NY if you want the most straightforward parallel compression experience with no bells and whistles. Choose IHNY-2 if you want additional tweakability and a more modern interface. Both plugins use the same dynamics engine for their core sound.
Can I upgrade from I Heart NY to IHNY-2?
Absolutely. If you own I Heart NY and would like to upgrade to IHNY-2, log in to your Baby Audio Account to activate your custom upgrade offer. Upgrading does not remove or deactivate your copy of I Heart NY and you'll just have a license to both plugins.
