A new benchmark for bass
SubCulture is a new kind of effect plugin for bass and beyond.
It uses advanced pitch-tracking technology to generate subharmonics in perfect tune with any monophonic signal —avoiding subsonic frequency clashes.
Where other bass enhancers offer static frequency boosting or rudimentary pitch shifting, SubCulture is built on a fully adaptive architecture. The entire processing chain aligns to incoming pitch information to create the cleanest, deepest, low-end to date.
Mix with incredible low-end
One of the hardest jobs in pro mixing is getting a full low end that translates well to all speakers. SubCulture makes this easier thanks to its advanced pitch-adaptive architecture, which helps avoid subsonic frequency conflicts. The plugin combines three primary engines:
- Sub Layer blends in a pitch-perfect, highly tweakable, subharmonic layer of the input signal up to two octaves below or above the original.
- Root Boost is a pitch-tracking EQ process that follows the fundamental frequency of the bass to emphasize the key frequency area of each note.
- Resonance is a tuned parallel filter network modeled after a classic analog design to add warmth and harmonics while accentuating the tracked pitch.
Complete processing suite for bass
We designed SubCulture to be the only plugin you'll need to put on a bass. It brings all the necessary processes to create a rich low-end foundation from any input source.
Once the three bass enhancement engines are dialed in, use the analog-modeled saturation and compression effects to add harmonics, punch, and glue.
Lastly, go to the mix section to balance the low-end frequency distribution and apply global high-pass filtering and bass mono conversion.
Click the gear icons on any effect to unlock deep tweaking options.
Add layers to any source
While SubCulture was designed with subharmonics in mind, it work well across the entire spectrum. Here are some further use cases:
- Bring a vocal front and center: Dial in a clean sub-octave for thickness, or a 5th for harmony, while using Root Boost and Resonance to emphasize the melody.
- Produce monstrous synth and guitar leads: Add SubCulture's three pitch-tracking engines at different octaves to dominate the spectrum.
- Bring out the melody in a bass line: Maybe your bass doesn't need more low-end, but more melodic emphasis. Add all engines at the root note to emphasize the bass line melody in a crowded mix.
- Self-oscillating effects: Add a 5th or 7th and dial in screaming "top layers" far above the root note for experimental effects that work well on drums and synths.
Quickstart tips
- Understand all the features: Hit the gear icon in the top left of the interface and turn on tooltips.
- Improve the pitch tracking: Click the tuning fork next to the global gear icon to calibrate the pitch tracking.
- Get deeper control of the effect engines: The gear icons in the top-right of each effect module open deep tweak menus.
- Enjoy bass in every color: Go to the settings menu to dial in your own default color scheme for SubCulture, which can be saved as the default.
- Warning about polyphonic tracks: SubCulture pitch tracks monophonic signals like bass, vocals, drum hits, etc. If you want to use it on a polyphonic track (such as a master), use the MIDI feature to control the pitch via MIDI input.
Avoid subsonic frequency clashes
Some bass enhancers will add a synthesized sub-layer to your track, which can result in anything from phase issues to an unnatural sounding low end. Others rely on fixed frequencies or filter positions, even if they include rudimentary pitch shifting.
SubCulture is the first plugin with a fully adaptive architecture that re-generates the entire processing chain to align with every incoming note. Furthermore, the subharmonics created by SubCulture are derived from the input source itself.
This leads to a low-end response free of frequency clashes, and which translates ideally to all speakers — allowing you to mix bass with total confidence.

SubCulture's advanced pitch detection engine can handle most monophonic input signals without the need to make adjustments. However, when using distorted, noisy or otherwise ambiguous input, click the tuning fork icon in the upper left corner of the interface to adjust the pitch detection to your audio's needs. Refer to the manual for a full description of the pitch detection calibration features.
Yes. However, SubCulture's automatic pitch tracking only works on monophonic signals like bass, vocals, drum hits etc. If you want to use it on polyphonic sources like a master, you can either select a static note/frequency or control the pitch via MIDI to get the full experience of pitch adaptive bass processing. Refer to the manual for details.
No, it's a fully adaptive process.
If you put a normal pitch shifter an octave below a bass, it tends to produce a thin and jarring sound with dynamic instabilities and artifacts that must be filtered out. Filtering and enriching such a pitch shifted signal with standard effects is nearly impossible because the processing required changes with each bass note.
SubCulture knows every current note through its state-of-the-art pitch tracker. And this pitch information is sent to a chain of processes, which all adapt to the pitch information to create the enhancement that is optimal for each note. This achieves a cleaner, more even, and more musical result than regular pitch shifting or other home-made solutions.
Yes, the plugin ships with 177 presets for bass, kick, drums, synths, vocals and beyond. The presets have been crafted by professional mix engineers to get you the perfect starting point for a wide number of use cases.
We started development on SubCulture in early 2025, so around 18 months. It's been in beta testing since early 2026 and put through its paces by professional mix engineers until it was fully ready for release. We're proud and excited to finally share the end result with our users.
